![]() ![]() After the Krag's stock was stained and finished, it was brought to the range to be test fired to see how the stock holds, and then approved to send back to the client. ![]() Original Springfield armory proof marks were replicated on the stock with a different year of acceptance to keep the stock looking historically authentic without trying to pass it off as an original. Custom rivets with spring steel are made to replicate the fit and look of the original style of carbine top handguard. The rifle featured an extremely smooth bolt-action and a rather unusual. The metal wass cleaned and re-blued to remove all existing rust. The Krag was chambered for the first small-caliber (.30), smokeless-powder cartridge in U.S. ![]() A new bolt body, barrel band, a rear sight, buttplate, and sling swivels were sourced for the restoration. A M1898 Krag Carbine Stock was custom made by hand from walnut lumber, and original parts for the restoration were sourced. Before we got it, this Krag was force fitted into a broken sporter stock meant for a mauser, with a sporter front and rear sight, bent bolt handle, worn bolt body, cut down barrel, and a loading gate which was heavily rusted. ![]()
